The genuine Birchmeier rubber piston ring for the pump on Flox, Iris and Senior backpack sprayers. It's the seal on the pump piston. Each stroke of the pump lever pushes the piston up the cylinder, and this ring seals against the cylinder wall to build pressure. When it wears, the lever pumps easily but the backpack never builds full pressure, or loses it quickly. It's one of the most common Birchmeier wear parts and an inexpensive fix.

How do I know the piston ring is worn?
The pump lever feels loose or pumps with little resistance, the backpack takes far more strokes than usual to build pressure, or pressure drops off quickly while you spray. Inspect the ring for cracks, tears or a flattened edge.
Should I grease it?
Yes. Birchmeier lists a dedicated piston grease for this part of the pump. A light coat on the new ring helps it seal and slide smoothly in the cylinder. Avoid petroleum products that could swell the rubber.
What if a new ring doesn't fix it?
Check the 113-885-01 check valve for debris or wear, since a stuck or dirty valve stops the pump from building pressure. If the piston itself is cracked or damaged, replace the 110-512-03 piston assembly. If the lid leaks or the tank sides suck in while you spray, see the flutter valve and lid.
Will it fit my AT model?
This breakdown covers the standard Flox, Iris and Senior pumps. The newer AT1, AT2 and AT3 models have their own parts diagram, so check it or call us at 602-371-1993 with your model.
