The Honda GX160 6:1 gear reduction engine pairs Honda's proven 163cc commercial engine with a built-in 6:1 gear reducer. The reducer cuts output shaft speed from 3,600 RPM to about 600 RPM and multiplies torque, so the engine can drive diaphragm and piston pumps directly through a jaw-style (Lovejoy) coupler, with no belts, pulleys, or clutch. It's the standard engine on many professional pest control and weed control spray rigs, and it's backed by Honda's 2-year manufacturer's warranty. Orders over $199 ship free.

We carry three versions of the GX160. When replacing an engine on a sprayer, match the start type and output to the engine you're replacing.
| Version | Start | Output | Commonly Used With |
|---|---|---|---|
| GX160 Recoil Start | Pull start | 3/4" shaft, full engine speed | Roller and centrifugal pumps, general equipment |
| GX160 Electric Start | Key start, with recoil backup | 3/4" shaft, full engine speed | Larger rigs and setups where pull-starting is a hassle |
| GX160 6:1 Gear Reduced (this engine) | Pull start | 6:1 reduction, about 600 RPM | Direct-drive diaphragm and piston pumps |
The 6:1 GX160 pairs with low-RPM diaphragm pumps like Hypro diaphragm pumps, Comet diaphragm pumps, and Udor diaphragm pumps. Keep it running with a fresh Honda GX160 air filter (17210-Z4M-821), and check the gear reducer oil along with the engine oil. Browse all Honda engines and parts, or contact us with your pump model and we'll confirm the right engine and coupler.
Will this fit my existing sprayer?
If your current engine drives a diaphragm or piston pump through a jaw-style coupler on a 3/4" shaft, this is almost certainly the right replacement. Check the model code on your old engine's tag, or send us your pump model and we'll confirm.
Why gear reduction?
Diaphragm and piston pumps are designed to run around 500 to 600 RPM. The 6:1 reducer drops the engine's 3,600 RPM to that range and multiplies torque, so the pump runs at its rated speed without belts or pulleys to adjust or replace.
Is it easy to start and maintain?
Yes. It's a recoil-start engine with Honda's Oil Alert system, which shuts the engine down if oil runs low. Change the engine oil and the reducer oil on schedule, keep the air filter clean, and use fresh fuel or a stabilizer before storage.
This engine ships ground only. FAA regulations don't allow it to ship by air.
This engine does not ship to California. The California Air Resources Board (CARB) prohibits the sale of many gas engines into California. To be exempt from CARB regulations, equipment must typically be used 51% or more in construction or farming. See CARB's guidance.
Engines that have been installed or have had gas put in them are not eligible for return, refund, or exchange. This ensures every customer receives an engine in brand-new condition.
