Coxreels 725 Locking Dog Kit

The Coxreels 725 Locking Dog Kit is a replacement locking mechanism kit for many Coxreels spring rewind hose reels. The locking dog mechanism allows the operator to secure the hose at a desired extension length rather than having the reel immediately retract the hose.

If your hose reel no longer locks into position or the locking mechanism is damaged, replacing the worn components can help restore normal operation without replacing the entire reel.

IMPORTANT COMPATIBILITY NOTE: This kit fits many Coxreels spring rewind hose reels but DOES NOT fit Coxreels SP Series reels. Verify your reel model and locking mechanism before ordering.

When Should You Replace the Locking Dog Kit?

The locking mechanism is repeatedly engaged and released during normal hose reel operation. Over time, wear or damage to its components can prevent the reel from holding the hose at the desired length.

Common signs that the locking mechanism may need attention include:

• Reel Will Not Lock: The hose retracts instead of remaining at the selected extension length.
• Intermittent Locking: The reel sometimes catches but does not consistently hold its position.
• Difficulty Releasing the Lock: The locking mechanism sticks or fails to disengage smoothly.
• Visible Damage: The locking dog, ring, or associated hardware shows wear, deformation, or damage.

Check the Mechanism Before Replacing It

Not every locking problem requires a complete replacement kit. Before ordering, inspect the mechanism for accumulated dirt, damaged hardware, or components that are not engaging correctly.

If the locking dog or ring is worn or damaged, replacing the affected locking components may restore reliable operation. A reel that retracts weakly or does not retract at all may instead have a spring tension or other rewind mechanism issue.
