The genuine Comet pressure accumulator, the dome-shaped cover on top of MC20 and MC25 diaphragm pumps. Together with the accumulator diaphragm underneath it, it absorbs the pressure pulses from each pump stroke and delivers a smooth, steady flow to your gun or boom. Replace it if the housing is cracked, damaged, or the threads for the air valve are stripped.

Charge the accumulator through its air valve with a standard tire pump and gauge, with the pump off. Comet recommends these settings based on your spraying pressure:

| 150–300 PSI | 75–105 PSI |
| 300 PSI and up | 105 PSI |
Never set your spraying pressure above your pump's maximum rated pressure.
How do I know the accumulator is the problem?
Heavy pulsing at the gun, a bouncing gauge needle, or a hose that jumps with every stroke usually points to the accumulator. Comet's troubleshooting guide lists excessive diaphragm vibration as a sign the accumulator has lost its air charge or is set to the wrong pressure. Start by checking and resetting the air pressure using the chart above. If it won't hold air, check the diaphragm underneath and the air valve. Replace the housing if it's cracked or leaking.
Should I replace the diaphragm at the same time?
If the accumulator is apart, yes. Comet's 5026.0347 Ordinary Maintenance Kit includes the accumulator diaphragm along with the pump diaphragms, valves and o-rings. Call us at 602-371-1993 to order.
How often should I check it?
Comet recommends checking the accumulator pressure regularly as part of routine maintenance, along with the oil level and inlet filter. Watch your pressure gauge for pulsing while you spray. It's the quickest sign the air charge is low.
