The genuine B&G brass tip retainer is the threaded ring that holds the 5800 and 5800-CC 4-way tips on the tip holder at the end of your Extenda-Ban valve. It clamps the tip against the 4190 gasket so it seals and still rotates between spray patterns.

When should I replace the retainer?
Replace it if the threads are stripped or cross-threaded, the ring is cracked or bent, or the tip won't stay tight and leaks around the edge. Many techs keep a spare, since the retainer is easy to lose when changing tips in the field.

Should I replace anything else at the same time?
Yes. Check the 4190 Viton gasket under the tip. A flattened or torn gasket causes leaks even with a new retainer. If the tip itself is worn or the holder is damaged, the 5850 complete tip assembly includes the holder, tip, gasket and retainer.
