How do I know the relief valve is bad?
Common signs are pressure that won't hold its setting, pressure that slowly creeps up or drops off while spraying, or a pump that bypasses most of its flow even when you set a high pressure.

Should I check anything before replacing it?
Yes. Debris on the valve seat is a common cause of pressure problems, so clean the valve first. Also check for a clogged intake filter, worn spray tips and worn pump check valves, which can cause similar symptoms. If the valve still won't hold pressure, replace it.
